The Greek Island where life is very, very long

From the unusual longevity and good health of the people who live on Ikaria, to the island's architectural wonders that have stood the test of time, there are many reasons to be inspired by this mythical, beautiful and enigmatic Greek island. So many in fact, that we decided to name our company after Ikaria. Located in the middle of the eastern Aegean Sea, the island’s name is derived from Icarus, the son of Daedalus. In Greek mythology, Icarus flew too close to the sun, melted his wings of wax and crashed into the sea. Ikaria is also said to be the birthplace of Dionysus, god of wine and grapes.

What really intrigued us about this mystical Greek isle was the unusually long life spans of its natives who are known to live well into their 90’s and show little signs of dementia, cancer and heart disease. Some of the many Ikarian lifestyle lessons we can integrate into our own lives are:

  • incorporate low impact exercise into your daily routine
  • surround yourself with friends and family that are positive and inspirational
  • eat a plant based diet
  • cultivate a low stress life
  • spend time outdoors and get moderate sun exposure
  • find your passion in life and wake up each morning with an expectant attitude

Our health, quality of life and longevity are deeply impacted by where we live, work and play. These factors inspire us to design and create optimal living spaces. The power of living in a healthy environment is immeasurable...
